Fairgrounds by John French

Landscape Painter, John French lives in Michigan with his wife and two Irish Wolfhounds. He was born in Santa Fe New Mexico and lived in Italy for four years prior to moving to Michigan. John’s work is collected by people all over the United States. Earlier this year, John’s painting “Bend The Gorgeâ€Â took first place in the Lake Superior Art Association Member Showcase. Congratulations on this well-deserved award! When we asked John to give advice to emerging artists, he said, “Don't give up. Don't settle for "good enough". If you can do better, do it. At the same time, don't be so hard on yourself that you paralyze your art.â€Â As artists, we tend to be the harshest critic of our own work and we could not agree more with his advice. We often get asked where to find the best art supplies. John does the bulk of his supply shopping at Michaels. His favorite oil paints are Blue Ridge Oils, a small business in Northern Carolina. He will buy other supplies from Dick Blick. Like most of our artists, he enjoys browsing small independent art stores which are becoming increasingly difficult to find.
